About

BACKGROUND

Founded in the early Eighties and formally registered in 1994, ICITP is now a confederation of 310 Indigenous and Tribal Peoples’ organizations involved in issue-based movements throughout India. It employs advocacy, education and empowerment strategies to protect and promote Indigenous and Tribal Peoples’ rights and the influence of their voice in decision making and policies affecting their cultures, languages, lands, waters, forests, environmental biodiversity, educational options, and socio-economic development.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to facilitate critical awareness and greater solidarity among India’s various tribal groups and their regional activities to mutually empower them, enhance their local autonomy, and promote their informed participation and discretionary intervention in all matters affecting their communities, environments and rights.

Objectives of ICITP

  1. To empower India’s Adivasis (Indigenous & Tribal People) with effective tools, tactics and strategies.
  2. To work on common issues affecting Adivasi people especially those relating to their human rights, lands, forests, waters, and other eco-cultural legacies.
  3. To strengthen Adivasi networks and collaboration in India and internationally
